Park Fees

Beartown State Park Winter Closure
Beartown State Park is only open from April through October due to possible snow/ice on the boardwalk trail during the winter months.
Limited Cell Service
Cell service can be spotty in Beartown State Park. It’s best practice to download a map before your visit.
Remote Location
Beartown State Park is on the border of Calvin Prince State Forest and near Seneca State Forest, putting it in a pretty remote location. It’s about 10 miles from the nearest gas station and about 30 minutes from Lewisburg, the closest major town.
Wildlife
Due to its remote area, you may encounter bears, snakes, and other forms of wildlife during your visit to Beartown. It’s always best to be aware of your surroundings.
Because of the wooded area, you’ll also be subject to mosquitoes and ticks, especially during the warmer months. It’s best practice to wear a good insect repellent.

Trailhead for the Boardwalk Trail
To reach the boardwalk trail, follow the foot trail from the parking lot. It’s about 100 feet long and leads you directly to the boardwalk trail.
What to Expect on the Trail
This half-mile trail through the forest at Beartown State Park follows a wooden boardwalk. Follow the signs directing you to go counterclockwise along the trail. You will encounter several sets of stairs along the trail.
As you walk along the trail, you will see several interpretive signs providing information about the area’s geology and ecology.
The trail meanders through several large rock formations. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place to visit!
Accessible Portion of the Trail Through Beartown
Although the half-mile trail has several sets of stairs, a small section is accessible to everyone. The large viewing platform connects to a flat path leading from the handicapped parking area. It leads to a pretty overlook between two of the large rock formations.

The only trail at Beartown State Park is the boardwalk trail through the woods. However, if you’re looking for more traditional hiking, nearby Watoga State Park has over 40 miles of hiking trails.
